Halle Berry Will Executive Produce ‘Boomerang’ TV Series With Lena Waithe

It's been 26 years since "Boomerang" wowed moviegoers... It’s been more than two decades since Eddie Murphy brought the story of Marcus Graham, a handsome, high-powered marketing executive to life in Boomerang. After BET announced it was adapting the 1992 hit comedy for the small screen, now we know Boomerang star Halle Berry will partner with Lena Waithe to executive produce the series. “I’m thrilled to team up with Lena on this project as she is without a doubt a leading voice of her generation and a trail blazer in her own right,” Berry said in a statement. “I’m truly excited to be a part of bringing this iconic and beloved film to the small screen.” Waithe, who made history as the first Black woman to win an Emmy Award for comedy writing, will pen the pilot episode with writer and producer Ben Cory Jones, who will also serve as Boomerang’s showrunner. While many may be weary about yet another reboot, Waithe assured fans that she’s not trying to simply recreate the magic of the original film, but rather tell a modern story based on a film many of us love. “This is less of a reboot and more of a continuation of the original story,” Waithe explained. “There’s no point in trying to remake a classic,” she continued. “It can’t be done. So we want to create something fresh that speaks to a new generation. We hope people will come to the show with an open mind and ready to embrace the new world we’ve created!” According to Deadline, the show will center on the children of the film’s main characters — Marcus (Murphy), Angela (Berry), and Jacqueline (Robin Givens) — and will premiere on BET in early 2019.

The second the star hit the red carpet on Monday night, Twitter blew up with praise for her opulent attire. “Rihanna has owned this theme #MetGala,” one fan tweeted. A Mother Of Two Was Just Sentenced To Five Years In Prison For Voting Illegally

A woman was sentenced Wednesday in Fort Worth, Texas, to five years in prison for voting illegally in the 2016 presidential election while she was on supervised release from a fraud conviction..... Crystal Mason, 43, a mother of two, was released from prison after serving almost three years for a tax fraud conviction in 2011, the Star-Telegram reported. She waived her right to a jury trial and had her sentence assessed instead, which state District Judge Ruben Gonzalez decided. In court, Mason said she voted at the urging of her mother, who insisted, and had never been told she was not allowed to vote. When she went to vote, her name was not on the voter roll, but an election worker walked her through how to vote provisionally after signing an affidavit, she said. Gonzalez asked during testimony why Mason didn't read the affidavit, which has a list of requirements to vote, including that the voter is not a felon or has served their full sentence, the Dallas News reported. Mason said she did not read it closely because an official was helping her. Mason told the judge about getting to watch her daughter graduate when she was released from prison and that she now wants to see her son graduate, adding that she would never have voted if she knew it would jeopardize that. The mother of two also said she had served her time for tax fraud and "would never do that again." Mason was sentenced in 2011 after pleading guilty to fraud that stemmed from a tax-preparation business she had with her now ex-husband. The couple submitted inflated tax refunds to the Internal Revenue Service, and she was ordered to pay $4.2 million in restitution as part of her plea agreement, the Star-Telegram reported. The judge had the option to sentence Mason to between two and 20 years in prison or probation for illegally voting. J. Warren St. John, Mason's defense attorney, said he had filed an appeal following the sentencing. BuzzFeed News has reached out to the defense attorney and prosecutor's office for more information. "She was never told that she couldn't vote, and she voted in good faith," St. John told the Star-Telegram after sentencing. "Why would she risk going back to prison for something that is not going to change her life?" Please guys drop your comments about how you feel about this.......

Jackie Chan Confirms 'Rush Hour 4' Could Begin Filming Soon Under 1 Big Condition

The iconic actor confirmed a script for the fourth installment has been completed.... Jackie Chan has revealed that a fourth entry in the Rush Hour series is closer than we think. Chan first starred alongside Chris Tucker in the buddy cop action comedy in 1998 with the duo returning for two more sequels in 2001 and 2007. With ten years now passed since their last on-screen union, Chan has some good news for fans - the fourth installment's script has been written. “For the last seven years, we've been turning down the script, turning down the script,” Chan told Power 106's The Cruz Show, adding: “Yesterday, we just agreed.” He continued: “The script probably at the end of this month will have a second draft and next year, [we'll] probably start. If... Chris Tucker agrees.” According to producer Arthur Sarkissian, however, Chan needn't worry; he previously claimed that Tucker was “on board,” adding: “He said he would love to do it.” The Rush Hour films - all directed by Brett Ratner - follow a pair of police detectives and the series of misadventures they find themselves embroiled in. The franchise's combined global box office gross is $850.6m
