Floyd Mayweather’s bodyguard shot outside ritzy Atlanta hotel, police say...

(CNN) – A bodyguard for boxing champ Floyd Mayweather is recovering at an Atlanta hospital after being shot in the leg outside a hotel early Monday, police said. It doesn’t appear to be a random incident. Investigators say there are indications “the shooter was targeting the victim’s vehicle,” according to an Atlanta Police Department news release. The bodyguard was in a convoy of three cars that was traveling to a hotel in the city’s tony Buckhead neighborhood just after 3 a.m. ET, said Officer Lisa Bender, APD spokeswoman. “We believe that Mr. Mayweather may have been in one of the other vehicles in the caravan and was not injured,” an APD news release said. Mayweather’s camp did not immediately return CNN’s call seeking comment. The bodyguard has not been identified. He is in stable condition at Grady Hospital downtown, Bender said. The vehicles left a club and were en route to the InterContinental when a vehicle pulled alongside the motorcade at an intersection and opened fire on one of the vehicles, Bender said. The intersection is along a strip of Peachtree Road replete with restaurants, shopping malls, high-end boutiques and upscale hotels. The drivers of the three vehicles fled, and the shooter’s vehicle followed, she said. After losing the shooter’s vehicle, the driver carrying the bodyguard rerouted to Grady, where the bodyguard received treatment for a gunshot wound to the leg, Bender said. Mayweather and his entourage had spent at least part of the night at a club not far from Buckhead. Both Mayweather’s and the club’s social media accounts promoted his appearance there earlier Sunday. The club also posted video of Mayweather enjoying music in the packed club as other patrons threw what appeared to be money into the air. At one point, a tub of champagne bottles adorned with sparklers was paraded through the club. Known for his hard-partying ways, Mayweather has largely remained out of the spotlight since his cross-discipline fight with mixed martial artist Conor McGregor in August, which Mayweather won by technical knockout. Coincidentally, McGregor returned to the spotlight three days earlier. Ahead of a Saturday slate of fights in which McGregor would be stripped of his lightweight UFC title for failing to defend it, McGregor and about 20 others entered the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and attacked a bus carrying UFC fighters, according to police. McGregor also stands accused of punching a security guard during the Thursday incident. McGregor faces several charges, including two counts of felony criminal mischief, and was released on a $50,000 bond.

CONOR MCGREGOR MEDIA DAY MELTDOWN AND COURT APPEARANCE (VIDEO)

Watch footage of Conor McGregor’s UFC 223 Media Day meltdown and his first court appearance after surrendering to police.... McGregor and several other individuals, including teammate Artem Lobov, crashed the Barclays Center following Thursday’s UFC 223 Media Day, attacking a van full of fighters that were preparing to return to the UFC fighter hotel in Brooklyn, N.Y. McGregor threw an appliance dolly through a window that injured Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg, causing medical issues that forced them out of their respective UFC 223 bouts. A chair cracked the windshield of the van, and numerous fighters were shook up after nearly being injured in the melee. New York Police sought McGregor, who surrendered to police Thursday evening, spent the night in police custody, and then appeared before a judge at his arraignment hearing on Friday. McGregor and his crew caused a ripple effect that blew apart the UFC 223 fight card, forcing three bouts to be canceled before Friday’s weigh-in wreaked havoc on the main event and the main card opener.

Watch Video: Deontay Wilder ‘accepts the challenge’ to fight Anthony Joshua in the UK.....

Deontay Wilder is ready to fight Anthony Joshua in the UK this summer to decide the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, according to his co-manager.... Joshua was quick to call out Wilder after defeating Joseph Parker on Saturday to add the WBO title to his own IBF and WBA belts. Wilder’s co-manager, Shelly Finkel, has responded to the challenge, saying the American fighter’s team are prepared to begin immediate negotiations over a unification contest. “We are really glad that Anthony Joshua said for the first time: ‘I will fight Deontay next...’ and we believe he is a man of his word. Deontay accepts the challenge,” Finkel told the Telegraph. “We want to make it public that Deontay wants the fight, and we are prepared to come over, or meet here and get the deal done. Deontay is ready to sign and come to the UK to fight this summer.” Only the WBC champion Wilder, who is undefeated in 40 contests, stands in the way of the Briton unifying all the division’s belts for the first time in history. Finkel, who co-manages Wilder with Al Haymon, said he will contact Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, this week. Hearn said on Sunday morning that there was a small window of opportunity before Joshua must defend three other belts against mandatory challengers. Finkel, who has the authority to get the contest signed from the Wilder side, responded: “We’re ready. Let’s do it. Unification fights always trump mandatories. “A unification between Wilder and Joshua would push the mandatories back. “Assuming it will be Wembley Stadium in the summer, we are ready, and if they are ready as they say they are, we want to get it done. We want the fight, they want the fight, the public wants the fight. There is nothing to stop it going ahead.”

Deontay Wilder to fight Bermane Stiverne Nov. 4 after WBC withdraws sanction for Luis Ortiz bout....

Deontay Wilder will defend his World Boxing Council heavyweight championship Nov. 4 in New York against Bermane Stiverne, it was announced Wednesday.... Stiverne is a replacement for Luis Ortiz, who was forced to drop out after he failed a drug test and forced the WBC to remove its sanction of the fight. Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 knockouts) had been scheduled to fight on the Wilder-Ortiz undercard next month at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Wilder, the 31-year-old Tuscaloosa native, won his heavyweight title by beating Stiverne in a 12-round unanimous decision on Jan. 17, 2015 in Las Vegas. It was the only career non-knockout for Wilder, who is 38-0 with 37 KOs. Ortiz, a 38-year-old Cuban, was found to have used chlorothiazide and hydrochlorothiazide, both banned substances that are often used to mask performance-enhancing drug use. He is 27-0 with 23 knockouts in his career. Wilder last fought Feb. 25, when he retained his WBC belt with a fifth-round TKO of Gerald Washington in Birmingham. Stiverne is rated the No. 1 title contender by the WBC, but had delayed his mandatory bout with Wilder for a fee so that Wilder could fight Ortiz first.
