$ 100 M Multi-year Ava DuVernay Inks, Multi-Genre Warner Bros TV Overall Deal

The relationship between Ava DuVernay and the Warner Bros Television Group just got much deeper and richer, literally and figuratively. The Emmy - winning and Oscar - nominated director signed a multi-year and multi-genre deal with the studio in Peter Roth.  The WRT production and development deal for DuVernay and its Forward Movement Shingle covers drama and comedy series, documentaries, digital content, event projects and long - form projects for broadcasting and cable, premium cable, streaming services and other platforms is a big leap for a primary filmmaker known as director. It is the first pact of DuVernay with any studio and will begin in January.  " I had only lovely experiences working with Peter Roth, Susan Rovner and Brett Paul, " said DuVernay, also Queen Sugar and Red Line EP, today.  " In fantastic and nourishing ways, they love and support artists.  They work in a traditional studio led by Kevin Tsujihara with unconventional energy and fresh protocols for deliberate, inclusive imaging.  Warner Bros is an excellent partner in matters of visibility and belonging to all kinds of people and cultures, which is our mission in the Future Movement.  I couldn't be happier to call my production home Warner Bros TV. " " We had the great pleasure of working with her on Queen Sugar and The Red Line, and we are very excited about the new stories she has to tell." While DuVernay is no stranger to the contrary, many might have considered her a more natural fit in Netflix, where her Oscar- appointed 13th documentary was launched.  She also has the newly wrapped four- part Central Park Five drama coming from the streaming service next year and a Prince documentary with exclusive access to the archives of Purple One. " Ava DuVernay is one of the leading lights in our industry, a brilliantly talented author, producer, director and entrepreneur whose ability to inspire her art is only surpassed by her ability to entertain," said Roth, Chairman and Chief Content Officer of the Warner Bros Group.  " We had the great pleasure of working with her on Queen Sugar and The Red Line, and we are very excited about the new stories she has to tell." While DuVernay is no stranger to the contrary, many might have considered her a more natural fit in Netflix, where her Oscar- appointed 13th documentary was launched.  She also has the newly wrapped four- part Central Park Five drama coming from the streaming service next year and a Prince documentary with exclusive access to the archives of Purple One. In an environment where everyone tries to lock up talent, however, it makes sense for DuVernay to move to a traditional studio when Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy go to the streamer.  For one thing, in addition to the range and reach offered by WBTV, one must take into account the relationship between the Selma helmer and the studio through the Warner Horizon Scripted Television-produced Queen Sugar, which was renewed in August for a fourth season at Oprah's OWN, and the CBS event series Red Line, which the executive produces with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter in-house superman.  In addition, unlike a streamer, the WBTV deal offers DuVernay the opportunity to sell its shows to everyone, instead of being locked in one place.  It also does not affect the big - screen ambitions of the indie collective ARRAY founder, which will also see DuVernay directing a big - budget adaptation of the Jack Kirby created The New Gods for Warner Bros Pictures.   New Gods will be the second such film for DuVernay, who was the first colored woman to host a $ 100 million live action movie earlier this year with Disney's A Wrinkle In Time.

CNN fires Marc Lamont over UN comments on Israel...

You have seen the last of Marc Lamont Hill on CNN; the cable news community has fired the Temple University professor after delivering a speech at the United Nations... In which he used an expression used as a canine whistle via Hamas and different anti-Israel terror groups. “Marc Lamont Hill is now not beneath agreement with CNN,” CNN stated in a declaration. Talking at the united nations, hill stated Wednesday, “we've an possibility to now not just provide solidarity in words but to commit to political action, grass-roots movement, nearby action and international movement so one can provide us what justice requires and that may be a unfastened Palestine from the river to the ocean.” “we have to prioritize peace, however we have to no longer romanticized or fetishism it,” he persisted. “we have to recommend and sell nonviolence at every possibility,” and recommended for “the right of an occupied humans” to defend themselves “in the face of nation violence and ethnic cleansing.” Hill disputes the characterization in a long Twitter series that included: Yesterday, I gave a speech at the UN in which I critiqued Israel’s polices and practices toward Palestinians. It’s baffling how people are not responding to the critique, but instead responding to things I didn’t actually say. — Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) November 29, 2018 In my speech, I talked about the need to return to the pre-1967 borders, to give full rights to Palestinian citizens of Israel, and to allow right of return. No part of this is a call to destroy Israel. It’s absurd on its face. — Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) November 29, 2018 I believe in full rights for all citizens. I believe in safety for all citizens. I believe in self-determination for all citizens. This is not an anti-Semitic position. — Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) November 29, 2018 Unfortunately, we are in a moment where any critique of the Israeli government is called anti-Semitic. Any call for Palestinian freedom is seen as an attempt to diminish Israel freedom. This does not have to be, nor should it be, the case. — Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) November 29, 2018 I concluded my remarks with a call to free Palestine from river to sea. This means that all areas of historic Palestine —e.g., West Bank, Gaza, Israel— must be spaces of freedom, safety, and peace for Palestinians. — Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) November 29, 2018 Anyone who studies the region, or the history of Palestinian nationalism, knows that “river to sea” has been, and continues to be, a phrase used by many factions, ideologies, movements, and politicians. — Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) November 29, 2018 The phrase dates back to at least the middle of the British Mandate and has never been the exclusive province of a particular ideological camp. The idea that this is a Hamas phrase is simply untrue. — Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) November 29, 2018 It’s also ABSURD and illogical to suggest that a speech that explicitly called for redrawing borders and granting full citizenship for Palestinians IN Israel was also calling for its destruction. People either didn’t listen to the speech or they’re being dishonest. — Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) November 29, 2018 I support Palestinian freedom. I support Palestinian self-determination. I am deeply critical of Israeli policy and practice. I do not support anti-Semitism, killing Jewish people, or any of the other things attributed to my speech. I have spent my life fighting these things. — Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) November 29, 2018 My reference to “river to the sea” was not a call to destroy anything or anyone. It was a call for justice, both in Israel and in the West Bank/Gaza. The speech very clearly and specifically said those things. No amount of debate will change what I actually said or what I meant. — Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) November 29, 2018

LL Cool J And Ice Cube May Soon Be The Owners Of Fox Sports Stations

Rappers LL Cool J and Ice Cube in talks to reportedly buy 22 sports networks from Disney as the company looks to divest the stations for approval of its 21st Century Fox acquisition... Co-Founder and entertainer Ice Cube sits with rapper LL Cool J during week two of the BIG3 three on three basketball league at United Center on June 29, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois. Rap heavyweights LL Cool J and Ice Cube may be coming to a sports channel near you. The music marvels are quietly courting 22 sports stations with the intention of buying them, according to TMZ Sports. The 22 channels are up for grabs as Walt Disney Co. (DIS) looks to divest them from its network portfolio as part of the Justice Department order for approval of its 21st Century Fox acquisition. Disney picked up sports channels YES Network, Fox Sports San Diego, Fox Sports Arizona, Fox Sports Detroit, and Fox Sports Southwest, to name a few, as part of its $71 billion 21st Century Fox purchase. But the Justice Department has other plans for the company, which is also a majority owner of ESPN. Disney must sell off the 22 sports channels to avoid a monopoly of the sports TV market. The New York-based YES Network was a boon for Disney as it holds the rights to air the New York Yankee games. According to The Wall Street Journal, Disney reportedly wants $5 to $6 billion for the YES Network, with a total package deal for all 22 stations anticipated in the $15 to $25 billion price range. While bidders for the sports stations run the gamut from private equity firms Apollo Global Management to the Blackstone Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group, the real interesting buyers are LL Cool J and Ice Cube. The pair has also found themselves a partner to sweeten the deal with Carolyn Rafaelian – billionaire founder of Alex and Ani jewelry, according to TMZ. The group is reportedly in talks with other sports and media starlets that may be interested in joining in on the bid for the sports channels.

Is this the end of Tekashi 6ix9ine? Bad-boy rapper arrested by feds in racketeering case. May face Life behind bars

Tekashi 6ix9ine, the controversial rainbow-haired rapper who was recently collaborating on a music video with Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, is in federal custody after being arrested Sunday night with three others on racketeering and firearms charges, TMZ is reporting... The Brooklyn-born rapper, his recently fired manager and two other former associates were arrested in New York by ATF agents. The bust was the result of a joint investigation by ATF, the New York City Police Department and Homeland Security, TMZ said. Tekashi’s arrest comes as he was set to release his debut album, “Dummy Boy,” this week, according to Vulture. Prosecutors, in a recent memo for an unrelated sex-crimes case, accused Tekashi of being part of a “criminal enterprise,” specifically the gang 9 Trey Bloods, the Daily Beast reported. The other suspects arrested Sunday night include include Tekashi’s ex-manager Shottie, whose real name is Kifano Jordan, TMZ said. The 22-year-old Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, fired Shottie and others on his management team last week, complaining on Instagram that they were booking him for shows without his knowledge, according to Rolling Stone. In the video post, captioned “WATCH IT ALL CRUMBLE,” Tekashi also told his 15 million Instagram followers that he had canceled his tour, including dates for his U.S. performances. Another person arrested Sunday night is Faheem Walter (aka Crippy), who was shot a few weeks ago during an altercation with the head of Tekashi’s record label, according to TMZ. Tekashi has spent much of his short rise to music and social media fame dealing with various legal issues and run-ins with law enforcement. The “Gotti” singer already was in a precarious situation due to a 2015 case in which he pleaded guilty to “the use of a child in a sexual performance.” The case involved Tekashi creating three sexually explicit videos of a 13-year-old girl that involved fondling her breast, smacking her buttocks and watching two other men penetrate her orally and vaginally, the Daily Beast reported. Tekashi was able to avoid jail time because he was deemed “a youthful offender,” though he was 18 at the time of the incident, according to the Daily Beast. He also had claimed that he didn’t know the girl was underage when they shot the video. Last month, Tekashi was given four additional years of probation for the case, along with 1,000 hours of community service, Rolling Stone said. He also was told to stay out of trouble and avoid additional arrests — or risk prison time. Given the conditions of his probation, TMZ said that Tekashi almost certainly faces prison time now — at least for the 2015 sex crimes case. But now there are federal charges, the nature of which have not yet been disclosed, Rolling Stone said. Tekashi will be arraigned Monday in a Manhattan court. Tekashi was in the news last week, ducking bullets fired at a rented Beverly Hills mansion where he and West were filming a music video together. Police described the incident as a drive-by shooting. Minaj, Tekashi’s “FEFE” collaborator, also was supposed to be at the mansion but hadn’t arrived by the time the shooting occurred. No one was injured in the attack, and work on the video was immediately suspended. Tekashi’s last stint behind bars, in July, was pretty scary for him. He was arrested by NYPD for an outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor assault out of Houston. Tekashi was housed in a special unit at Rikers Island, used for inmates battling contagious illnesses or high-profile prisoners in need of special protection, TMZ reported. He claimed that, while in central booking, members of the notorious Trinitarios gang called him a “b—” and vowed “to cut him,” according to the New York Daily News.
